SUMMARY:UNC Medical Center Presentation on Shamanism and Shamanic Healing
DESCRIPTION:For the 10th year\, I’ll be speaking about shamanic healing to a group of graduate students in an Integrative Medicine class at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. The class is usually made up of master’s students from the schools of medicine\, nursing and public health\, and some faculty and staff members. It is part of a series of lectures on the Principles and Practices of Alternative/Complementary Medicine\, and is held at the UNC Medical Center. I appreciate this opportunity and the openness of this group to considering many avenues for fostering health. \nAlthough this event is not open to the public\, I do speak about shamanism and other related topics to organizations and private groups. SUMMARY:Shamanism Without Borders - Seeing the Dignity in all Beings
DESCRIPTION:Part of the regular series of Shamanism Without Borders gatherings. \nShamanism Without Borders is a community working to provide ethical tending when there is a crisis that faces our communities. This community is comprised of people who can work collectively\, and respond quickly\, to natural disasters and other acute events\, and also more chronic issues like pollution and other forms of suffering to humans\, animals\, plants\, and land. It’s an intentional and clear process that allows us to be of service in our own unique ways of working shamanically as guided by the helping spirits\, and also having some checks to make sure that we are not invested in outcomes or too attached emotionally. \nThese will either be call in ceremonies where I will lead you through the process\, or virtual gatherings that you can do independently in your own space while others are working on the same issue. \nToday’s ceremony will be virtual. \nThe theme for the gathering is Seeing the Dignity in All Beings. \nThere is no charge. \nTo fully participate in the ceremony you’ll want to have some knowledge of\, and experience with\, shamanic practice\, especially a strong relationship with your helping spirits. These aren’t instructional sessions; we are getting right to the work. If you do not have shamanic journeying experience\, but feel called to listen and learn more about working in this way\, you are welcome to join the call! Just please do not engage in practices that you are not trained to do\, even with the best of intentions. That is very important for everyone involved. \nPlease contact Mara via email if you have any questions\, would like to learn how to journey\, or if you are interested in possibly joining. I can include you in the announcement with the number for call in ceremonies. \n  \n \nThe Society for Shamanic Practice (SSP) began this program and I’m grateful to be a part of it. It’s beautiful work and I hope you’ll consider joining the gatherings. \n“Shamans throughout time have used special techniques and principles to tend to trauma and disasters\, many of which are still very relevant today. Our Shamanism Without Borders program organizes shamanic practitioners\, who through local and international web-based networks\, can rapidly respond and tend to natural disasters\, acts of terrorism\, war\, pollution\, and anything that causes disruption and suffering to humanity\, to the animal and plant life\, and the earth’s delicate bio-system. This is a community of dedicated people who believe that in a coordinated fashion\, they can assist and support healing in such events by applying long-distance and cross-cultural shamanic balancing techniques at no cost.
